Hyrox Sharjah Thoughts
Hyrox Sharjah, what a blast that was! Super impressive venue and the course was a good one too!
It was great to see the fitness community come together at the venue with so many familiar faces all getting after it on the course. Having a 2 lap course makes such a difference, even with the small turns the venue had i felt it was a nice one. This was my 15th Hyrox race and i would say one of the best flowing courses yet.
If you have been racing Hyrox for a while youve probably learnt that the sleds can feel so different from course to course, even using the Centr sleds and the same carpets for some reason then can just feel so different. In my opinion the Sharjah sleds flew! They felt so light in comparison to other venues ive raced at. For example, we had a team racing in Hyrox Turin (Italy) in February this year and we all agreed that the sleds felt super heavy (half the weight to sharjah in my opinion). With a 2 lap course and “light” sleds theres no wonder lots of people left this venue feeling super happy with new personal bests.
Up next for me is Hyrox Mumbai and then onto Hyrox Bangkok. Im racing pro solo in both events to rack up some more experience and to test some different strategies and see if they pay off (fingers crossed). Then theres the potential of heading to Hyrox world championships in Chicago with Dannie for mixed doubles. Then the final race before full summer hits with Hyrox Abu Dhabi which i know lots of people are already working towards.
If you are planning to race in Abu Dhabi for your first Hyrox my best advice is this: Train with heavy sleds so they don’t catch you out on race day. Make sure you’ve done a full run through (simulation) so the full distances don’t shock the system. Don’t put any pressure on yourself with a time goal, give yourself a nice big range and then go and work hard in the build up to it and try to enjoy race day, i can promise you it will hurt, theres no way around that, but the more relaxed about it you are the better you’ll perform!
Cheers,
George
